“The goal in this practice for many of us is to learn through the challenges and changes. Ashtanga Yoga is not performance art, but rather a technique whose implementation can nurture health and promote growth of a spiritual and physical nature. One may look great doing asanas, and that doesn't insure the ability to transmit the essence of the form as a teacher. This may only be acquired through many years of experience, working with different individuals, and continuous self-practice through the challenges and changes.
The ‘better’ student therefore is not necessarily the one 'furthest along in the series'. In fact the better student may be the disciplined one that continues despite extreme challenges or even because of them! There are some adept Yogis with physical handicaps who have great discipline, yet will never look as graceful as a dancer or gymnast. Is their practice any less valid in the eyes of God, much less me?
We all strive to do the best we can. Sometimes we are injured, or feel left out, or are faced with other serious impediments that make it hard to practice daily. I am coming to help you with that. To help you stay the course and not become confused about your journey...”
